My Flipped-Classroom Adventure

Hellooo everyoneeee,
How are youu? I hope you are all good. You know our intro “Another day, another assignment!” Today I am going to talk about Flipped Teaching. ✨

Flipped classroom is a teaching approach where students first meet the content before class usually through videos, short readings, or online tasks. Then, class time turns into a space for practice, communication, and problem-solving instead of long teacher explanations. In language teaching, this approach creates more time for speaking activities and meaningful communication, which we all know students desperately need. Of course, it also comes with challenges: not every learner watches the video, some struggle with technology, and you need to design materials that are clear, short, and motivating. Still, the benefits usually outweigh the drawbacks especially for young learners.

For our task, my partners - you know my girls Azra and Sıla! 💖 and I prepared a flipped lesson for 5th graders using the ASSURE model. Students first watch a short vocabulary video and complete an interactive quiz at home, and then they use that vocabulary actively in class through role-plays, games, and speaking tasks.

The process was honestly a mix of productivity, caffeine, and three people asking each other “Wait, does this make sense?” at 1 a.m. We had small challenges like organizing the flow of activities and aligning the video with the in-class tasks, but we solved them through constant communication and dividing the work according to our strengths. While one of us focused on writing the plan, another on the quiz, and I took the lead on the video and design part. And we all together narrated our video (which I found the most enjoyable part of the assignment).

For the tools, We used Canva Pro to create the lesson video. It allows you to add visuals, animations, voice-overs, and clean layouts easily perfect for young learners. For assessment, we used Wordwall, a fun and gamified quiz creator that gives students instant feedback. This exploration of the tools contributed me a lot which I will use frequently in my further profession.
