AI in ELT: Last Assignment of the Year 🎄

Hello everyone!! It is the last task of the semester and year, can you believe it??! What a year! It was tough but we were able to survive, huh?
For this task, we with my girls Azra and Sıla, designed an AI-integrated writing activity for EFL high school prep students, focusing on diary writing about a summer holiday. The lesson begins with brainstorming key words and pair discussions to activate ideas and support planning. Students then write a diary page and use ChatGPT with a guided prompt to receive feedback on grammar, vocabulary, and organization. A key part of the task is encouraging students not to accept all feedback automatically, but to evaluate it critically before revising their writing. This process highlights AI as a learning partner rather than an authority, supporting learner autonomy, reflection, and informed decision-making in the writing process. For the task collaborating with my teammates eased our job and thanks to the ideas from each of us, we created an enjoyable material together. Overall the task demonstrated me how AI can be meaningfully integrated into ELT lessons to enhance learning without reducing students’ ownership of their work.
